Our Arts Market will be filled with the best in local culture, from fanzines, to hand-made crafts, and holding free Workshops for everyone to get involved.

 

The workshops will run throughout the day, encouraging you to get stuck in and be creative! Bringing fun and animation to the Arts Market area, the workshops run by a wonderful selection of practising artists and creative organisations will include: drawing and illustration basics, stamp and block printing, book binding, instrument and costume making, fashion and photography, poetry and beat boxing. Having teamed up with Southampton City Gallery and John Hansard Gallery in celebration of their current exhibition of Andy Warhol's iconic works, there will be an exciting Andy Warhol themed catwalk to get involved in too!

Committed to providing fun and engaging music projects to people of all ages, SoCo are a not-for-profit community music project based in Southampton. They currently have dozens of projects running all across Hampshire, including work with schools, community groups and youth clubs. They also work with individuals and anyone who has an interest in music. They work with a large range of people, from Find Your Talent and Hampshire County Council to schools and youth groups across the county, SoCo believe in giving everyone the chance to experience and enjoy music, regardless of whether or not they can play a musical instrument.

Media Workshop

The Media workshop is a community arts organisation, working mainly with photography and digital imagery, but also offers graphic design, screen printing and visual art. The organisation works in partnership with groups of people of all ages and abilities on a wide variety of projects and runs workshop based courses to suit.

 

This year at Ejector Seat the MW will be running a hands on screen print stall, where anyone can have a go at screen printing their own Ejector Seat t-shirt and make a festival badge. You can get involved further by taking part in a 'design a t-shirt' competition. Winning designers will have the opportunity to screen print their own t-shirts at a later date and have them sold at Beatnik Emporium. Pick up an entry form on the day for more info. In addition, MW will be running a short fashion photography workshop in collaboration with Beatnik. You'll be able to choose a fashion decade,get dressed up in Beatnik's clothes and learn how to take fashion shoot photos.

Apples & Snakes is the leading organisation for performance poetry in the UK that strives to bring their art to as wide an audience as possible. Running over 90 performance poetry events every year, including a bi-monthly showcase at the Nuffeild Studio, and arranging over 670 participatory educational workshops each year, Apples & Snakes aim to deliver an engaging experience that shows that performance poetry is about so much more than just words on a page.

 

Apples & Snakes stretches the boundaries of poetry in education and performance, by inspiring participation and giving voice to a diverse range of dynamic poets.

Red Hot Press - Print Making Workshop

Red Hot Press returns to the Ejector Seat Festival with a hands on workshop for all ages and abilities. Join them in making an ultra long print which will sum up the festival on the day. A chance to record what the best bit of the festival has been for you!

 

We will have ready made rubber stamps and lino blocks for you to print from or you can have a go at making your own. Red Hot Press will also be making a special commemorative poster for the festival which will be available to buy on the day

Waterside Scrap Store + Found Art Collective - Instrument Making Workshop

The Waterside Scrap store is the only scrap store in the New Forest. They supply a vast array of low cost recycled materials for children's play. They have excellent links with many local suppliers and other regional stores to ensure they always have a excellent selection of interesting and useful materials. For the festival they will be collaborating with members of the Found Art Collective to provide a playful interactive workshop to make instruments and costumes from recycling scrap materials.

Johnny Toaster - Book Binding Workshop

Andy Warhol- Makeover + Cat Walk

 

The City Art and the John Hansard Galleries are co-staging a major exhibition of around two hundred works by Andy Warhol, taken from the ARTIST ROOMS collection, and will be one of the most significant art exhibitions in Southampton for generations. This is where the Solent’s Fashion team come in, an official and memorable connection between Solent, Ejector Seat Arts and this Andy Warhol exhibition is set to be formed at the festival. There will be fashion styling and make up students running workshops and styling the public under the Andy Warhol theme, for example transforming volunteers into characters from his prints. All looks created by students will be set to build up to a catwalk finale. 

Brighton's Drinky Doodle comes to Ejector Seat Festival 2011

 

Drawing games.... with a difference!

 

Brighton's much loved drawing, drinking and doodling night comes to Ejector Seat Festival 2011.

 

Usually housed along the coast in the pubs of Brighton, Drinky Doodle bring their unique mix of participatory art to Palmerston Park for a special outdoor round of drawing games and merriment for all ages.

 

Anyone can play Drinky Doodle - all you need is some imagination and they will provide the pens, pencils, paper and a little bit of extra inspiration.
